Car Servicing

How often should I service my car?
Follow the schedule in your logbook. For most cars, that’s every 12 months or 10,000–15,000 km, whichever comes first. If you do lots of short trips, tow regularly or drive on dusty roads, your car may need servicing more often. Check your manual’s “severe conditions” schedule, or ask us.
A standard service at Hunter Automotive & Tyre includes:
  • Engine oil and filter change
  • Brake inspection
  • Tyre check and rotation
  • Battery test
  • Fluid top-ups
  • A full safety check of steering, suspension, lights, belts and hoses
Yes. Your warranty is protected under Australian Consumer Law as long as servicing is done by a qualified mechanic, to the manufacturer’s schedule, with parts and fluids that meet specification. Our logbook services follow all three, and we stamp your logbook every time.
Yes. We test batteries, replace them and check the charging system. Slow cranking, dim lights, or a battery more than three to five years old are all signs it’s worth getting tested.

Pink Slips & Rego

Do you do pink slips in Georgetown?
Yes. We’re an Authorised Inspection Station, so we can complete your pink slip (eSafety check) on-site. The result is sent electronically to Transport for NSW for your rego renewal.
In NSW, light vehicles more than five years old need a pink slip before their registration can be renewed. Newer vehicles don’t need one.
Most inspections take around 30 minutes. If anything needs fixing, we’ll explain what and why, and quote the repair before any work starts.
You can have the inspection done up to 42 days before your rego is due, so there’s no need to leave it to the last minute.

Tyres & Wheel Alignments

When should I replace my tyres?
Replace your tyres when:
  • Tread depth reaches the legal minimum of 1.5 mm
  • You notice uneven wear patterns
  • There are bulges, cuts or cracks in the sidewall
  • Grip drops off, especially in the wet
Rubber also hardens with age, so tyres more than about six years old should be checked closely.
We recommend an alignment check once a year or every 10,000 km. You should also get one after hitting a pothole or kerb hard, or when fitting new tyres. A correct alignment extends tyre life, improves fuel efficiency and keeps the car stable.
Common causes include:
  • Wheel misalignment
  • Uneven tyre pressures
  • A sticking brake caliper
  • Worn suspension components
Book a wheel alignment or suspension check and we’ll find the cause.

Brakes & Clutch

How do I know if my brakes need attention?
 Common warning signs include:
  • Squealing or grinding noises
  • A soft or spongy brake pedal
  • Vibration when braking
  • The car pulling to one side when stopping
If you notice any of these, book a brake inspection at our Georgetown workshop.

Signs of a worn clutch include:

  • Engine revs rising without the car speeding up
  • Difficulty shifting gears
  • A burning smell when driving
  • A soft, high or sticking clutch pedal
